Class Descriptions

🩰 BALLET

Build strength. Find your balance. Learn the foundation of dance.

Ballet is the foundation of many dance styles and focuses on proper technique, alignment, flexibility, strength, balance, musicality, and graceful movement. Dancers will learn traditional ballet vocabulary and positions while developing discipline, coordination, and confidence. Ballet provides the technical foundation dancers need to grow in virtually every style of dance.

🩰 POINTE

Strength. Technique. Grace. Step onto pointe!

Pointe is an advanced ballet discipline in which dancers learn to safely execute ballet movements while dancing on the tips of their toes wish special Pointe shoes. Classes focus on strengthening the feet, ankles, legs, and core while developing proper pointe technique, balance, alignment, control, and artistry. Pointe work is introduced only when a dancer has demonstrated the appropriate physical, technical and emotional readiness. Dancers will progress at an individualized pace with an emphasis on safety, strength, proper technique and full readiness.

👞 TAP

Make some noise and find your rhythm!

Tap combines dance and music as dancers use their feet to create rhythms, beats, and intricate sounds. Classes focus on timing, musicality, coordination, footwork, and rhythm while introducing dancers to tap vocabulary and combinations. Tap is energetic, fun, and a great way for dancers to develop a strong sense of musicality.

JAZZ

Big energy. Bold movement. Lots of personality!

Jazz is an upbeat and versatile style that combines strong technique with musicality, performance, and individual expression. Dancers will work on turns, jumps, leaps, kicks, isolations, and jazz choreography while developing strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. Jazz encourages dancers to bring their own personality and performance quality into every movement.

💕 LYRICAL

Tell the story. Feel the music. Dance from the heart.

Lyrical dance blends elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary movement with expressive storytelling. Dancers focus on musicality, emotion, fluidity, control, and connecting movement to the meaning of a song. Lyrical gives dancers the opportunity to express themselves through movement while continuing to move the audience with their story.

🔥 HIP HOP

Bring the beat. Bring the attitude. Bring YOU!

Hip Hop is a high-energy style inspired by street dance and popular culture. Classes focus on rhythm, grooves, musicality, coordination, body isolations, and choreography while encouraging dancers to develop their own unique style and confidence. Hip Hop is all about personality, performance, and having FUN while moving to the music!

CONTEMPORARY

Push boundaries. Explore movement. Dance without limits.

Contemporary dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance. Dancers explore dynamic movement, floor work, musicality, control, balance, and creative expression. Contemporary encourages dancers to use their entire body and explore different ways of moving while developing both technical ability and individuality.

🎭 MUSICAL THEATER

Dance it. Lip Sync it. Act it. OWN the stage!

Musical Theater focuses on the dance while combining acting, character development, and performance skills inspired by Broadway and musical productions. Dancers will explore choreography, stage presence, storytelling, facial expression, and character while learning how to bring a performance to life. This class is perfect for dancers who love to perform BIG and aren't afraid to show their personality!

📣 POM

Sharp. Strong. Spirited. STARR-worthy!

Pom combines dance technique with the precision, energy, and performance style like collegiate dance team. Dancers will work on sharp arm motions, jazz technique, kicks, jumps, formations, synchronization, musicality, and performance quality while learning energetic pom choreography. This class is a great introduction to the skills used in college dance team and sideline pom.

Jazz - 2 years old through advanced level
Twinkles (starting at 2 years old) Any Color Leotard, any color dance tights, pink ballet shoes
Shimmers, Sparklers, Starlets & Starrs  Any Color Leotard, any color dance tights, Tan Pirouettes, Dance shorts acceptable not required 

Lyrical - Beginner through advanced level
Shimmers, Sparklers, Starlets, Starrs  Any Color Leotard, any color dance tights, tan pirouettes

Hip Hop - Beginner through advanced level
TotHop through HipHop 4 -  Age appropriate street clothing - no jeans; no shorts.  Sneakers for class only!  No outside shoes will be allowed in the dance room.

PrePointe / Pointe - By Miss Amy approval only
Any color leotard, tights & ballet shoes or pointe shoes *Recommending all pointe dancers be professionally fitted by the staff at The Dance Station with Miss Amy following Pre Pointe Assessments and re receiving a “Golden Ticket”. 

Contemporary - (10+ years old) 
Any color leotard, footless tights & bare feet

Musical Theater - (9+ years old)
Any color leotard, any color dance tights, tan jazz shoes

Pom - (9+ years old)
Any color leotard, any color dance tights, tan jazz shoes


**Hair must be pulled back and secured for all dancers in every class - no claw clips!
If your dancer does not have the proper shoes for their class, we will try to fit them for shoes from our borrow bin.  If we do not have their size & dancer does not have the shoes for their specific class, they will be asked to sit out - this is for safety.
